Here’s another hottie from the UK, Kelly Brook.  Lucy Pinder and Kelly Brook could play twins.

May 22, 2012 3:08PM

Right off the Agent Provocaeur main page.  That’s some hot photography.  So the UK does it like this, soft and delicate, but Michael Bay’s team shoots Victoria’s Secret very slick, hard and cool.  Is it safe to say that one is more feminine than the other?

May 21, 2012 11:02PM

Mavis still got it. Sure, I’ll probably watch your movie.

May 21, 2012 8:31PM

If Naomie Harris does turn out to be the new MoneyPenny in the new James Bond film series, that’s a big deal… isn’t it?  MoneyPenny’s an iconic character in that lore.

Who are the IGN girls?

Jessica Chobot and Naomi Kyle

Physical-feature-wise, they’re very similar looking.  Except, one’s brunette, the other’s blonde.

So does using a hot babe sell more video games? That’s the question for today.

May 18, 2012 7:05PM

The UK’s Lucy Pinder

UK chooses their “Page 3” girls because they have big knockers.  I don’t know if they’re doing that because they think that’s what us Yanks like.  Lucy Pinder also has a beautiful face. But, yes, she’s very “gifted”.

How to create a celebrity:

1. The celebrity’s looks must conform to current standards of beauty

2. The celebrity must be open to exploitation for promotional purposes

3. The audience must believe that the celebrity is living the high life and envy it

4. Classified

Who are these Snorg Tees models? Some of them are really cute! They’re always looking for new models.

The always-fun Austin Powers fembots.  Grrr, baby, yeah!

Tip of the Day: If you’re shooting a self-portrait in your room on the fly, a good time is right after you install new light bulbs.  That’s when the bulbs will be illuminating at their optimal brightness.  Otherwise, wake up early in the morning to take advantage of free light when the sun is out.  Manipulating light is key to photography.

May 17, 2012 12:13AM

In the 70s, the art directors were still basking in the glory days of the 50s.  It’s strange that in 2012, no one wants to pay homage to the 1990s.

May 16, 2012 2:50AM

As white women begin to take on the physical characteristics of black women to attract black men who have taken over the popular culture as sex symbols (football players, basketball players, rappers, comedians, celebrities, etc.)  It’s also possible that white men found the physical characteristics of non-white women attractive and the white women had to compete with that attention.  Hey, I just calls it how I see it.  Why waste that college education?

May 16, 2012 2:42AM

So by the 1920s, women were starting to show a lot of skin, relatively speaking.  And we start to see more emphasis on tall, lanky women rather than round, voluptuous curves squeezed into a girdle.  This leads to what is considered beauty to this day.

Notice it’s always the affluent that set the trends.  That is, until the late 1990s…

May 15, 2012 6:35PM

Good ol’ Tinto Brass style.

When it comes to putting on a spectacle, these are the top two right now:

Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga

So explain how this helps/hurts these idols careers?  If you’re an aspiring model, could you force yourself to be this outrageous?

May 15, 2012 12:51AM

Lindsay Lohan? No.

I know there’s a lot of hate for Kristen Stewart out there, so I’m going to post it.

May 14, 2012 1:35PM

Uncle Roger Ebert just posted a “hi-larious” blog entry that women are better than men.  So naturally, in regards to the image industry, I have to mention his contribution: Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens.  It’s funny, trust me.  Uncle Roger is a breast (and ass man, you’ll get it), and he thinks that’s what young guys want, too.  So the next time you chase after a pair of jumblies, you can thank Uncle Roger for teachin’ you the ways.

I don’t get it, but it’s worth observing. 1980s fashion

Am I the only person who doesn’t like Instagram?  What’s the point of taking an 8MP iPhone image when you’re just going to apply a digital retro filter to deteriorate it?  That’s like using one of these new ultra HD cameras only to convert it into a line drawing.  Then why get all those megapixels and detail to begin with? Ah well, someone has to come up with a new gimmick.

May 13, 2012 1:21AM

To balance out my topics a little. Andrew Loomis is an illustrator who has a very distinctive style when it comes to human anatomy.

May 11, 2012 5:51PM

What’s hip, what’s new?  Can Anne Hathaway pull it off (live up to Julie Newmar) in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises as the latest “Catwoman”?

May 10, 2012 11:46AM

This girl’s all over the place: The Amazing Spider-man, Gangster Squad, etc… Looks amazing as a redhead, huh?  She’s a natural blonde, though.  Can someone explain why certain physical traits work for some and not for all?  If blonde is the standard, why doesn’t it work for Emma Stone, whose career took off because she didn’t play “blonde”?  Explain.

May 9, 2012 9:29PM

Here’s a beautiful French actress whose typecast is usually that of an exotic ethnic femme.  You can see her in the upcoming Batman film The Dark Knight Rises where she is suspected to be playing the villain Ras Al Ghul’s vengeful daughter Talia.

Question: would casting a really “ethnic” female to play the character (the ethnicity of the fictional villainess isn’t truly defined in the source comics, we just know it’s an ethnicity somewhere in the Middle East) affect whether you watch this film or not?  Why did the filmmakers cast this particular actress?  Use your spider-senses, peeps.

May 6, 2012 10:06PM

I don’t know about this one.  Megan Fox is back in the news again since she screwed herself of all the free publicity from association with Michael Bay and his Fembot Academy of Victoria’s Secret models. I did a simple Google Images search and this is what I find.

I don’t know.  It’s so well ‘shopped, yet it makes me wonder who has the cajones to do it if you’re not a bored 10-year-old boy still drawing dicks in a lined notebook. But I still got a laugh out of it, even though I know I shouldn’t.

May 3, 2012 11:33PM

I have a theory.  If I can manage to get Uncle Terry to open an account and show up on the Model Mayhem forum, my hypothesis will be proven true.  Of course, my hypothesis would have to be disclosed.  Would be one hell of a social experiment.

Who is Bar Rafaeli?  Besides the woman Leo was banging?

I guess it helps if you look like Red Agent Leonardo DiCaprio and want a girlfriend that looks like Bar Rafaeli.  What’s your girlfriend’s main skill? “She sells underwear. She sells underwear really well.”

May 2, 2012 11:43AM

I could post that hot Kate Upton dancing video up, but this one’s more humanizing:

How can you hate on this dude?

In commemoration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, I hereby appoint today as Waverly Day.

To Waverly, I’ll be your knight in shining armor… from a long time ago!

My conservative, Christian values prohibit me from posting the following:

It’s Madonna in her prime. Yeah. I went there.

Apr 30, 2012 7:36PM

Check out Chris Cunningham’s stuff.

Watch “Flex” if he ever releases the full thing.  It’ll leave you conflicted, it’s so well-done.  And no, I do not condone violence against women… or violence against men either.  Even if it’s fucked up foreplay.

Apr 30, 2012 7:23PM

So I have this theory.  When you see too many of the same face look over and over, it’s because someone at the top of the Hollywood food chain’s got a personal bias for that look.  Either it’s a personal thing, or it’s purely business and they’re just recycling it over and over for profit.  They do it to men, too, but I just want to focus on the women for this blog (ie, Brad Pitt/Robert Redford, Clooney/Grant, etc).

80s

Second coming 90s

Is there some kind of beauty playbook out there?  I’m not saying the women I’ve been listing aren’t attractive, but I’m sure there are a bazillion combinations of phenotypes out there.

Apr 30, 2012 7:17PM

And to be politically correct and drive the point across even more:

Ha! The Chinese have a standard, too!  This is what the Chinese filmmakers want Americans to lust over.

And then the Americans tell the Chinese that they should lust over American-chosen Joan Chen’s and Vivian Wu’s.

If you really want to study the standards (beauty or not), watch what kinds of typecasts they play.

Apr 30, 2012 6:57PM

Wow. What’s going on here?

These are some of the top “brown” ladies of music.  What does this mean about standards for brown women?  Their voices are distinctive enough, but in order to sell a product, the visual aspect of it is important.

And here’s Zoe Saldana, top of her game.

Wow, it’s like they rolled out from the same factory.  Ya think Hollywood’s trying to push a certain standard? Maybe? Juzzabit?

Apr 30, 2012 6:45PM

And here we go.

Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle in the upcoming Dark Knight Rises is possibly based on Hollywood starlet Audrey Hepburn.  Nolan’s really puckering up to his “American” bosses isn’t he?

No mention of Julie Newmar.  But then again, the Brits also had their Avengers Emma Peel.  Whatever works I guess.

Apr 30, 2012 1:34AM

The original pimp, Toulouse-Lautrec.

All you young people need to know some art history.  You have endless material. Watch for a reference in Baz Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge.”

Apr 30, 2012 1:29AM

To counter Sherman, here’s someone I’m sure some of you models might also admire.

I didn’t think it was possible to make Tina Fey sexy, but goes to show the media professionals proved me wrong.  I’ll get to her significance to the beauty industry later.  It has more to do with her work in SNL than her looks.

Apr 30, 2012 1:23AM

Cindy Sherman’s work annoys me, but I have to make a mention to sound smart.

There’s some discussion about the feminist aspect of her work.  But I don’t want to dive into that stuff.  Just be wary that it does, in fact, affect a lot of what you see today on CW and other teen dramas.

Apr 30, 2012 1:12AM

You guys like yonic symbolism?

Here ya go. Boticelli’s “Birth of Venus”.

Apr 30, 2012 1:04AM

I don’t know too much about the fashion industry, but I paid attention in Photography class.  Here’s some beauties to mull over:

Twiggy

Edie Sedgewick, Andy Warhol’s muse:

And the grown-up Emma Watson:

Is it too easy?  I’m sure Oprah has a chart somewhere that maps us all out, looks-wise.  So why are some more favorable than others and re-used, reinforced generation after generation?

Apr 30, 2012 12:56AM

Whose got some balls, besides John Waters, to depict women in such an ugly fashion since Picasso?

Apr 30, 2012 12:52AM

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within bombed at the box office, but they sure as hell tried to sell to fanboys the idea that CG actress Aki Ross was real… and sexy.

At the time, it was quite convincing. If you have a keen enough eye, there are tell-tale signs that it isn’t real.  What makes a computer-generated human really sell the illusion?

The most obvious one is the “plastic” texture has to be fixed.  Second is that the model itself shouldn’t be too symmetrical or mathematical.  There are some other things, but you can toss that list around yourselves.

Apr 30, 2012 12:48AM

Thank Edward Muybridge for taking the first step to documenting the human animal in motion.

Kinda takes away all the erotica, doesn’t it? Well, maybe not. That is quite the shapely lass.

So back to the argument, this one is yet another example of naked women advancing technology.  Granted, Muybridge did photograph lots of other animals in motion, men, children, and the famous horse, but you get the picture.

Apr 30, 2012 12:36AM

And I thought I would come up with the next big gimmick:

A simple Google Search for “modeling poses” yields infinite results.  Would prove quite useful, eh?  Figure out why some of these poses work, and some don’t. Some may say it’s as simple as composition.

Apr 29, 2012 11:37PM

Nikon D3200, a whopping 24 Megapixel sensor

And it comes in Iron Man red.  Running at a reasonable $700, memory card not included, I’d say it’s a good start for anyone who wants to do a beauty service by capturing her essence with technical mastery.  Again, it’s not how technologically advanced the camera is, it’s how the photo is taken.
